With reasons ranging from eating disorder, depression, anxiety, mental and personal health to drug addiction, these celebrities, including some Hollywood A-listers, have all spent time in different rehabilitation centers some time in their past. Let’s hope they have truly recovered and gone through their issues successfully.
1. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato sought treatment for eating disorders and mental health issues. “The X Factor Judge” and one-time Disney star Demi Lovato spent three months in rehab in late 2010. Though she said that her stay at a rehab was the darkest time of her life, the singer-songwriter opened up that “recovery is really possible” – especially if you’re really serious about it.
To help raise awareness, she has been very candid about her struggles with drug addiction, alcoholism, as well as her emotional and physical issues.
2. Britney Spears
Not long after the infamous head-shaving incident in 2007, the pop star queen checked into a facility. Singer Britney Spears underwent a stint in rehab in 2007 after a string of bizarre incidents which included shaving her head, getting tattoos, and partying excessively.
3. Lindsay Lohan
‘LiLo’ has been to a rehab facility for six times from 2007-2012. She completed a mandatory 90-day stint in the summer of 2013. A Los Angeles judge sentenced Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in “lockdown rehab” at Seafield Center in Westhampton on March 18, 2013 for misdemeanor charges stemming from a June 2012 car crash.
“I have more peace in my life. For now, I just want to work and take care of myself,” she said as to how her life has been after her last “exit” in the facility.
4. Catherine Zeta-Jones
Committed to periodic care in order to manage her optimum health, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones checked herself into a psychiatric hospital in 2011 to treat bipolar II disorder. She did this so her doctors can monitor her medicines and treatment procedures.
5. LeAnn Rimes
Depression and anxiety led LeAnn to seek help at a treatment facility in 2012. LeAnn voluntarily checked in to a rehab facility for a month back in August after she experienced what she called stress and anxiety, with online bullying being a contributing factor.
“I feel like there’s only a handful of people that could understand where I’ve been through as a childhood star, and now actually having a career after that,” she said during an interview conducted at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, the Hotel of the Stars in January 2013.
“It’s hard to explain, and I’m not asking for anyone’s sympathy,” she explained. “It’s just as simple and as complicated as I need to go learn how to deal with myself, with the world, because everyone’s always looking in, and I needed to figure out how to deal with it.”
6. Demi Moore
Demi Moore checked into a Utah rehab center in 2012. The ‘Ghost’ star landed in rehab, allegedly to treat anorexia and addiction to prescription pills, after a downward spiral that arrived when her marriage to actor Ashton Kutcher ended. She suffered a seizure after smoking an “incense-like substance” and received treatment for eating disorder and addiction issues.
It could be remembered that during her early years as a young rising star, Moore underwent rehab for drug and alcohol abuse in the mid-80s. After many years of sobriety, she still manages to stick to water and energy drinks at parties – wanting to “let loose”. Hence, some of her behavior has troubled her and has greatly affected her relationships and personal life.
7. Leah Messer
The ‘Teen Mom 2’ star checked into rehab for stress and depression in June of 2015. Messer’s inability to cope with these dark secrets ultimately led her to abuse prescription painkillers, the source explained to an online magazine.
With her problems running deeper than fans might ever realize, she survived a dark, traumatic childhood. “She had a very rough time growing up,” an insider revealed. “Many people, even her close friends, don’t know that she dealt with a lot of pain and suffering when she was a very young girl.”
8. Selena Gomez
A rep for Selena Gomez revealed in 2014 that the Disney kid turned singer/actress “voluntarily” spent time at a rehabilitation facility in Arizona, “but not for substance abuse.” She took a break to manage anxiety, panic attacks and depression. “Selena is dealing with lupus, but this break is to focus on her mental health,” a source close to the pop star shared. “She can go to a very dark place.” The insider describes the facility, just outside of Nashville, as a “private and quiet place,” but “super intense.”
Reports also confirmed that Gomez cancelled the Australian leg of her Stars Dance world tour in December 2013, saying, “I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.”
What matters now is that all these eight lovely and talented women survived the struggles and be able to get back in track.
