Do you think you’d survive without your arms and legs? Could you picture yourself not being able to walk, care for your basic needs, or even embrace those you love? Well, if you think it’s quite impossible to live without limbs, you’ve got to meet Nick Vujicic (pronounced as Voo-yee-cheech), a man who doesn’t have arms and legs but is able to make a difference, not just in his own life but to the lives of other people as well.
To help shed light on the world and keep you motivated despite everything you’re going through, we share with you his life, his journey, and his very inspiring story.
His challenging early life
Without arms and legs, Nicholas James “Nick” Vujicic was born on December 4, 1982, in Melbourne, Australia. Despite three sonograms, the complications were not detected, making his parents, Boris and Dushka, deeply shocked with his condition when they first set their eyes on him.
However, they know they had to accept the fact that their son has an extremely rare congenital deformity referred to as the phocomelia syndrome. This birth defect is where the hands or feet are attached close to the trunk, the limbs being grossly underdeveloped or absent. In Nick’s case, the disorder was characterized by the absence of both his arms and legs.
Despite all these struggles, the Vujicic family was destined to cope with both the challenge and blessing of raising a son who refused to allow his physical condition to limit his lifestyle. Though early life was never easy as he experienced depression and loneliness – wondering why he was different than all the other kids and questioning his purpose in life – he managed to obtain victory over his dilemma and up to now still continues to live life as He plans.
Sharing his blessings and wisdom
Over the years, he has gained much strength and passion for keeping going. Little did he know, he has also begun to inspire others. In fact, at the very young age, he used to lead prayer groups that eventually made him a full-fledged evangelist and motivational speaker.
To date, he has shared messages of hope and love to over 6 million people in 57 countries, not to mention those people whose lives were touched and changed forever by his inspirational blogs and videos over the Internet.
Living life extraordinarily
Being the founder, president, and CEO of ‘Life Without Limbs’, a non-profit organization whose mission is to share the God’s Words through his own life, this dynamic young evangelist has accomplished more than most people achieve in a lifetime.
He’s an author, musician, actor, and motivational speaker – all in one package. His hobbies include fishing, painting, swimming, surfing, skateboarding, and even trying other sports like football, golf, skydiving, etc.
No arms, no legs, no worries
February seems to be his “month” as two of his life’s milestones happened in this love month: his wedding day and the birth of their first born. On February 12, 2012, he married his fiancée, Kanae Miyahara, and after a year and a day, February 13, 2013, their first son Kiyoshi James Vujicic was born weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces. Hence, their second son Dejan Levi Vujicic, was born on August 7, 2015.
Truly, he has been blessed with a great marriage and an almost ideal family life. With his wife, their two boys, and his ministry, Nick is humbled to be used as an instrument to be a guiding light and an inspiration to many lives out there – even in his own little ways.
The man without limbs believes that our attitude determines our ability to succeed. How we respond to challenges, approach change, and deal with difficulties —even how we think about ourselves—are all key factors in success, whether in life, career, and business. And he shared: “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!”

Who would have thought that this limbless fellow will be successful in his career, find bliss in his marriage, and experience the joys of parenthood? Miracle, perhaps but it’s more of his strength, passion, optimism, faith and gratitude that help him through. He’s certainly amazing!
